procedures

A). analyze the meaning and implications of the appropriate quote or selected passage provided:

B). before finishing the free writing (five minutes) review what you have written and summarize the paragraph in a sentence or two.

C). create a group of three people (two only if necessary):

ON ONE SHEET OF PAPER-- write the three names and record the responses of each member so that at the end of the 10 minute period your group produces one to two pages of written work representing the verbatim statements of each member of the group written by another member of the group. Identify the roles of each person in the group.

D). divide the work of the three as follows allowing five minutes for each person to play all of these three roles:

attentive listener -- ask pertinent questions to clarify assertions.

speaker -- answer questions and relate your opinions to the material
covered in the books & lectures.
recorder -- writes down the verbatim statements of the speaker.

After four minutes exchange roles in rotation so that everyone in the group has an equal opportunity to do every task listed above! (10 minutes)

E). explain aloud, verbally to the class what the three of you agree on and disagree on with respect to the descriptions, explanations, or interpretations of the material found in the books, lectures, or your reading & research.

F). finish by writing together a reflection of what your heard (four minutes) turning in your group's written statement with the names of each person; have each recorder identify the "speaker" and the listener during each of the three segments of the activity.

G). grading or evaluating your performance is based on the relation of three criteria:
